Negative experience: As rental tenants there is not really a choice when it comes to the agency but any investor considering allowing them to manage your asset should probably keep looking. I rented through this agency for approximately eight years. While we generally tried to minimise our interactions with them, our overall experience was that they operated at a bare-minimum level and often felt like they could not be trusted. At the start of the tenancy, the condition report was not properly completed by the agency, leaving us to document and record a significant number of existing issues ourselves. Throughout the tenancy, there were repeated attempts to charge us for water usage despite our lease clearly stating that water charges were not payable because the property was non-compliant. On one occasion, the agency arranged for a contractor to attend and test electrical safety switches, but the contractor also conducted water flow testing without our knowledge. The results were later found to be inaccurate, yet the matter escalated to the point where we had to deal with it through the tribunal process. Over the years there seemed to be a revolving door of property managers, and the standard of service varied significantly. Unfortunately, several managers came across as either poorly organised or unnecessarily arrogant when dealing with straightforward tenancy matters. At the end of our tenancy, the property was left in immaculate (better than we received it) condition. There were no obvious issues preventing the prompt return of our bond, yet the agency still chose to hold the process for the full statutory period rather than finalising it sooner. To be balanced, Nicole as the owner was always reasonable and professional in our dealings with her. However, she appeared to take a fairly hands-off approach on the rental side which unfortunately allowed weaker property managers and administrative issues to continue unchecked. After eight years as tenants, I cannot say the agency was terrible, but I also cannot say it was particularly good.

Meeting the Auctioneer at one of the opens was also a good experience. to know who I would be working with to know what and how things were going to go on the day was a better experience then one I'd previously had. After the auction was done, contract and pleasantries was quick. Dealing with the transfer of deposit, Nicole was understanding and accommodating to the transfer being multiple transactions. Fantastic experience: 'Out͏ of the box' customer service I recently sold my house in Marrickville after 30 years. The service I received from Gerber Real Estate and particularly Nicole was exceptional. Nicole knows the market and the marketing plan was spot on, including the need to furnish the house to show it off at its best. Nicole was at all times professional in her dealings with me, as was her staff. Being a former journalist, for me the most important element of Nicole's service was communication, communication, communication. She kept me in the loop at all times of the marketing campaign providing feedback she had received and building that into her realistic approach to the sale. On the day of the auction, she again proved her professionalism through her flexibility. My house sold a few days after the auction for more than I expected. It's often said that real estate agents and journalists are at the bottom of the pile! But this is definitely not true in my experience. I fully understand why Gerber Real Estate has been awarded agent of the year for their area for 2022. I could not ask for more from Nicole, although if I had I am sure she would have delivered.

Negative experience: This open inspection for a unit today was so badly managed your staff were bickering with each other and potential buyers who travelled and queued to look at the property were asked to hurry up and leave. Not sure that’s how you want to treat buyers, extremely poorly managed inspection.

Negative experience: I am a landlord to three properties and was gobsmacked at how unprofessional the Newtown team was from a tenants point of view. It was the hardest time of year to find tenants and I was looking to move within two weeks. I live in Katoomba, but need a place in Newtown for nights I stay for work. I couldn’t make it to a Saturday open home, so requested one on the Thursday night. I also asked if two cats were allowed and they said it should be fine and would check. Come Monday no word. On Tuesday I phoned until I finally got through, asked if pets were okay and if I could view on Thursday. They said to apply, which I did, but still no answers. On Thursday morning I called with no answer. I drove to Sydney to view the property, but still nobody answered. An absolute waste of five hours of my time. By Thursday night I realised that these property managers were totally useless, and would be a nightmare to have to deal with. The next day (Friday) I viewed and leased a house from another agency. Still no word from Gerber. On Saturday, I sent my husband and friend to view the Gerber property to find out what was going on, as I was at a wedding. The property managers said that I hadn’t applied (even though I had gotten my application receipt). On the Sunday I moved into my new property. The next day I received a notice that my application was unsuccessful. This agency obviously has no respect for other people’s time. They didn’t even know that I had applied, and never answered any of my questions. Totally and utterly useless.

Fantastic experience: Great staff and service

Negative experience: In a word - scum. They lie, refuse to answer questions, ignore emails and wouldn't even send the condition reports for the property when THEY were making claims against us. Avoid if you can.

Positive experience: I met Arthur at one property I was looking at in the inner-west. He's a personable and friendly gentleman who I'd happily list my property for sale with. All agents still seem to play the same old games, however at least he did it with a smile and didn't treat the buyers as commodities. I ended up purchasing another property, however he achieved a good result for the house he was selling.
